Wyoming Buffalo Feeds Portland Free

A “ROAM FREE” truck full of food is parking in downtown Portland at 6th & Morrison in Pioneer Square, May 20-22, to provide a free taste of Wyoming to all passersby. The signature item is bison sliders produced from animals raised on the Durham Ranch in northeast Wyoming. Owner John Flocchini is president of the National Bison Association. He represents the third generation of his family on the 55,000 acres of Durham pasture. Flocchini says buffalo meat is at an all-time high in terms of both market price and demand:

There are 2,500 purebred American Bison on Durham Ranch and the original bison there came directly from Yellowstone National Park making it a truly unique herd. In addition to bison, The Wyoming “ROAM FREE” food truck will be serving free samples of “Chugwater Chili,” Wyoming honey, candies, chokecherry jam, granola and Mulligan Stew pet food.

Portlander Sings for Wyoming

Tyler Stenson has been voted “Best Male Artist of the Year” in Portland for 2011and his elegant folk music style will be showcased in free, live performances later this month in Pioneer Square presented by the Wyoming Office of Tourism. Stenson’s song “Wyoming” drew the attention of his home-state and he’s penned other tunes such as “Babysitting the Cowboy” that reference his childhood in Wyoming:

Stenson will perform acoustic solo shows at times to be announced in Pioneer Square, May 20-22, at the Wyoming Office of Tourism location near Sixth & Morrison. A special Tyler Stenson show is booked at the Rock Bottom Brewery in downtown Portland at 9 p.m. Friday night, May 20. There is no cover charge.

Rope for Cool Caps

World Champion pro rodeo roper Bobby Harris will make special appearances May 20-22 in Portland’s Pioneer Square as the Wyoming Office of Tourism introduces metro Oregonians to the “Cowboy State.” Harris is widely recognized to be one of the foremost roping instructors in America and routinely leads clinics across the country. He’ll give brief tips to all comers prior to their try at the head of a roping dummy. Winners receive a free cap courtesy of King Ropes & Saddlery of Sheridan, Wyoming. The Harris family has owned and operated a ranch near Gillette, Wyoming for more than 130 years. Bobby Harris is an enrolled member of the Eastern Shoshone tribe. He won the team roping championship at the famous Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo last year:

Free caps will be awarded hourly during the Wyoming “ROAM FREE” food truck extravaganza in Pioneer Square at 6th and Morrison. The three-day event will also feature a “green screen” posing in front of which will result in free photos showing participants being chased by a rodeo bull, sprayed from the top of a geyser and facing off with a giant trout.

Geyser Gazer Offers Hands-On Help

An expert on the thermal features of Yellowstone National Park will be in Portland, May 20-22, to talk about the home of the most natural hot spots in America. Old Faithful Geyser is going on temporary loan to downtown Portland in the form of an electronic interactive wall, street level, at 625 SW 4th Avenue beginning the week of May 16. For 25 years, Mike Keller has performed extensive volunteer work with the National Park Service cleaning, monitoring, and helping to preserve Yellowstone’s thermal areas. His efforts have been featured on the Discovery Channel, Travel Channel and in National Geographic magazine. Yellowstone’s bubbling mud pots, steaming vents and unique geyser activity are a constant source of amazement for visitors from across the globe:

The 10’ by 10’ Wyoming interactive wall, going live the week of May 16, offers passersby the chance to lift to eruption the most famous geyser in the world as well as shoot stars over Devils Tower National Monument (the first national monument in the country) in addition to simulating water play in Grand Teton National Park.
